Hear ye all! There is hope! Eco-Pope Al Gore has faith in us!
We need only endure one little teensy decade more of being squeezed by his fellow zealots (such as Nancy Pelosi, a rich lady who was traumatized by an oil spill in her distant youth) and Barack Obama (a rich guy that thinks it's "hip" to be Gore'd), before a massive government program will eliminate our need for fossil fuels! COMPLETELY. Our country will run on the wind and the sun! O, the joy!
His Greenness will convince Congress to repeal the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics in spite of Obama's veto threats.
Furthermore, by 2018, anyone who is caught using internal combustion for any purpose whatsoever will be summarily executed be the eco-police.
<deep breath>
I can guarantee that there will still be gas stations in 10 years. So, what the former official is really telling us is that
Democrats will Gore the oil industry with special "windfall profits taxes", those costs will passed on to us, and we will have to pay bucketloads more for gas until someone invents clean, cold fusion.
Gore is just dumb. Trying to replace an entire constellation of technologies and the industries that create them with a costly and barely emergent technology in a decade will not happen. Al didn't invent the Internet in only 10 years, but when it did arrive, it was based on a relatively steady escalation of existing technology - Moore's Law, anyone? We will be able to repeat the same kind of innovation around green technology, but it won't be a runaway success because its dirty competition is actively suppressed, and because there is no Moore's Law for solar cell design. Energy doesn't work that way.
